The Elusive Perfect Marketing Email Subscription
Do you find yourself constantly falling victim to an overflowing inbox, blasted with emails from companies you’re not interested in, and subscribed to lists that seemed to have a lot of promise, but have turned out to be nothing more than clutter?
You’re not alone!
Keeping a tidy inbox and hunting down a quality marketing email subscription to opt into can be a drag of a process. With such an emphasis on content creation, many companies are producing content for the sake of producing content – and not necessarily succeeding.
So how do you cut through the chaos and choose the best marketing email subscription you’ll actually read?
Take advantage of our short list of favorites, that’s how! We’ve done the heavy lifting of testing and found a handful of solutions to meet your marketing email subscription needs. Each gives a comprehensive view into this dynamic industry. This list is by no means the end-all-be-all of lists, but consider it a solid jumping off point to help you scale your search and save time.
The Skimm
If you, like so many of us today, struggle to filter through the constant stream of news updates, are wary of falling victim to fake news, and could benefit from a brief rundown of the world’s happenings, The Skimm is your solution. While not necessarily marketing focused, I don’t think there are many people who wouldn’t benefit from keeping relevant by staying up to date on the latest world happenings.
Delivered early morning Monday through Friday, The Skimm takes roughly 10 minutes to read top to bottom. The writers take a sassy tone full of humor, and sprinkle trending, pop culture references throughout to keep things light. Also included are cleverly placed links to content not included in the email, so that you can see sources and dive into other, lower profile stories at your convenience.
The Skimm also offers a mobile app full of important (and not so important) dates and events you don’t want to miss, in addition to housing the archive of the classic email you see in your inbox each morning. The app syncs seamlessly with your phone’s calendar, but of course offers it’s own customizable calendar in the app. Select your preferences about what type of content you’d like to see, read a selection of short articles, and even check out a new recommended read each Friday.
In addition to news and book recommendations, The Skimm tries to keep things light by offering periodic contests and discounts in conjunction with their partners and sponsors. If you’re into swag (and who isn’t??), use your unique referral link included in each email to get credit in the form of swag and yearly birthday recognition in the daily email.
The Skimm is innovating their way to becoming way to becoming the best, most enjoyable way to soak up all that is happening in the world – and all in respect of your busy schedule.
The Daily Carnage
If reading articles isn’t your preferred way of consuming information (or even if it is), The Daily Carnage could be your new go-to marketing email subscription resource. Each email has one podcast, one blog, and one video, each packed with trending topics, best practices, and general marketing advice from thought leaders around the world. The topics range from broad to laser-specific, rounding out their content for every type of subscriber.
If you’re constantly feeling strapped for time, don’t let The Daily Carnage overwhelm you! Each email has a substantial overview of the content’s main points – something to take advantage of if you don’t have an extra 30+ minutes to spare digging through all 3 pieces of featured content.
Also important to note is that this content is aggregated from all over the web, so you’re sure to get a wide variety of perspectives on the current marketing environment, rather than one company’s opinion.
The daily email is rounded out with a quote, complete with a “tweet this” button for easy sharing, as well as an “ad from the past.” What better way to learn and be inspired than by having past ads delivered to your inbox each day?
No matter your area of marketing expertise or level of experience, The Daily Carnage is a great solution to keeping up with this fast-paced industry.
Moz Blog
While I place a lot of value in relying on many sources for important information (and to avoid falling victim to fake news), Moz is a company with content I can get behind. Employees at Moz work by the TAGFEE code: they focus on being transparent, authentic, generous, fun, empathetic, and exceptional. Plus they have a neat robot mascot to represent those core values, which is a win in my book.
The blog has several ways to filter including seeing all of Moz’s content on Moz Blog, all of user generated content (anyone can submit!) on YouMoz, Rand’s blog (he’s the founder and CEO), and the Dev Blog. As you scroll through the many posts on the site, click any keyword or author to filter and narrow your view by those corresponding articles, or choose a category from the dropdown menu always visible on the top right corner.
Their library of posts is extensive and includes in-depth explorations of more than everyday entry level topics – for example “How to Predict the Conversion Value of Keywords for SEO.” While this article and some like it may be a little too technical and long-winded for some readers, for others, this is exactly the valuable content they seek amid a sea of 101 and beginner-style articles (although there is plenty of content for beginners, too).
But back to the actual email.
In your inbox, you’ll find the full blog post broken down into digestible sections and with some visual content. The email definitely isn’t as neat and aesthetically pleasing as the actual blog post on moz.com, but it puts all the information at your fingertips, eliminating the need to click away for the full content – easy, peasy.
