If you’re in the design, marketing, or advertising world, you’ve probably seen your share of filler text, commonly referred to as lorem ipsum. Filler text is commonly used in design mockups for marketing collateral, advertisements, or websites to preview the layout and visual aesthetic of a design, including font and typography. Using lorem ipsum text allows the designer and reviewers to focus on the design itself without getting distracted by the copy.
Historically, lorem ipsum is a jumbled version of a Cicero text that reads as nonsensical, improper Latin, and has been used in typesetting since at least the 1960s. While modern software still provides traditional lorem ipsum text, designers also have access to a large variety of filler text options at their disposal, making life and each project a little more fun. Now, designers and content creators are able to invoke their inner porker with Bacon ipsum, relive hilarious Gob or Lucille moments with Bluth ipsum, and celebrate their yuccie-ness while reminiscing over Hipster ipsum.
Recently, when I was working on a web project while being entertained by a 30 Rock marathon, I was surprised that I couldn’t find a filler text containing the witty banter of Liz Lemon, Jack Donaghy, or Tracy Jordan. Without these filler texts in sight, I knew the world was missing out.
Ryan Gosling ipsum served as a great template; it was clean, lightweight and allowed a text refresh without reloading the page. I grabbed the code from GitHub, reformatted the layout and styles, and added some Liz Lemon quotes to the json file. I picked up the lemon-ipsum.com domain and launched the site so the world will no longer be missing out!
I hope Liz Lemon Lorem ipsum will help spice up your next design project and bring a lot of laughs to your art directors, marketing teams, and clients. Don’t see your favorite quote? Leave it in the comments and I’ll add it in!
