A few weeks ago, our CEO Kelly Shores and I traveled over to the new Accruent office in the Domain, ATX. On this shoot, I personally learned a lot. I’d like to thank Accruent for the opportunity to work with them and share a few lessons I learned along the way.
1. What in the World is a “Dronie?”
By now most everyone is familiar, for better or worse, with the popular fad of the “selfie.” Thanks to Kelly keeping us hip, we kicked off the shoot with a self-portrait, drone style. For fun elaboration see New Zealand’s take on the topic; “The ‘selfie’ is dead. Introducing the ‘dronie’.”
2. You Really Can Work and Play
The Accruent team rocked this shoot with the right work and play attitude. Each person was on time for their scene, in elaborate costume (even inflatable T-Rex suits), and then back in a meeting as if on cue! Each person I met was engaged in their part, back to work in a flash, and then back with us at the end for the indoor drone footage of the common space.
I loved the energy each team member brought to their part. If you’re a fan of “The Shining” don’t miss the twins’ fantastic appearance in the Accruent halls. They really are quite the freaky pair!
Another fun element was the live action shot of the intense trike skills that Jacob Goldman brought to the table. I am happy to report no permanent damage was done as we captured some pretty crazy “trike drifting” in the Shining Twins’ scene.
3. Corporate Video Success is Not Out of Reach
My biggest takeaway was how such an awesome corporate video came out of such an easy and light-hearted experience. The entire staff was excited and involved while doing actual work between their shots. Kelly and I were in and out before lunchtime.
At Sparksight I have been able to work with a team that looks at challenges and says “Let’s give it a try.” I believe that attitude is essential for meaningful success, in video and otherwise. This video flowed from the genuine excitement at Accruent about their new office space. Cody Dishman had an idea, and made it happen! Here we find him catching some zzz’s in the “Mouse Hole.” I want one of these in my house.
Many people have great ideas for videos to show off what is unique and awesome about their company culture, but are stopped by convention before they get started. Before working here I certainly shared in many of the preconceptions that frequently thwart budding video dreams. This simple yet effective video shoot proves that anyone with a good idea and a can-do attitude can make their video dream a reality. ALL of the props, costumes, and events in the video came from the creativity and enthusiasm of the Accruent team. This video is a success because it allows their playful personality to shine. Without further ado, here is the final cut!
Accruent @ the Domain
I hope you enjoyed the behind the scenes glance into the Accruent Video Shoot. We certainly enjoyed ourselves and always love experimenting with new ways to make corporate videos – from the indoor drone flight to the lightsaber battle, the shoot was certainly quite unique! If you are trying to launch your company’s video campaign but are intimidated – maybe a quick video to show off what you’re most proud of is the best first step. After all, Mark Twain’s well known quote tells us that “The secret to getting ahead is getting started…” So dream big, and get going!
Anybody else out there with a cool idea they’d like to try? Bounce your ideas off your peers in the comment section below or give us a shout on the “Get Started” page!
