Animated video is a fantastic way to market your company, product or service. Its simplicity gives the power of versatility and leaves you with seemingly endless options. Animation is an expansive medium that covers both 2D and 3D, in countless styles and approaches. So which path is the right one for your next project? How do you know which options to choose?
Here are 5 things to ask for and consider in your next animated video that will set you apart from the rest in the best way.
Advice
Here at Sparksight, we have made A LOT of animated videos and we’re constantly exploring more exciting and efficient ways ways to tell our clients’ stories. We are a valuable resource at your disposal, and our top priority is delivering you a product that you can be proud of. So ask us for some advice! We can offer professional insight that will start your video on the right track from day one, instead of an expensive course correct down the road. Regardless of how involved you are able to be with the process, we are happy to answer any questions and concerns you have throughout.
Characters/No Characters
Having characters in your animated video livens up your message and brings are more personable feel to your video. The only drawback is the potentially high cost involved with characters. Characters take a great deal more time to design and animate than most objects, and tend to drive up price in the end. Be sure to weigh whether or not characters are appropriate and necessary for your specific project. Many animated videos are just as informative and engaging even without the use of animated characters.
Illustrated UI
If you have specific UIs that you’re featuring in the animated video, we highly recommend asking to have them mocked up in the style of your animation. This will help you out in two ways. First, it will create a more seamless overall look for your video, rather than working with multiple design styles within the same animated video. Second, UIs are updated regularly, and you don’t want to feature an older version of your amazing product! We want to deliver you a video that is relevant for as long as possible – evergreen content is the goal! We would hate to see your video become obsolete as soon as the next UI update is introduced, so we recommend giving illustrated UI a thought.
Proper Video Length
Detailed and lengthy messaging is better left for use in white papers and on websites. While videos are often considered the king of content marketing because of their ability to keep the viewer entertained and informed, if the video is too long, your viewer won’t stick around. We’ve done our research and found that shorter videos are more effective. But how short should they be? Ask! We can help you decide what works best for your project.
Unique Style
You want to stand out so everyone can learn about your fantastic product, but how can you do that if your animated video looks just like everyone else’s? The most successful videos we see are ones that choose a strong, unique eye-catching style. Don’t feel shackled to your specific branding restrictions. This is a video! If your message is consistent, the project can have its own style and still honor your brand. Ask your creative agency for samples and suggestions. I guarantee that the animators will have a list of exciting ideas to offer!
These 5 factors will make your next marketing animated video more effective and much easier for you to produce. Of course, the main thing to do is to ask! At Sparksight, we love to share our experience with clients to help make their projects better. If you have a question, don’t hesitate to reach out!
